The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of applying justice selectively in the ongoing legal cases involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party maintained that while no citizen is above the law, enforcement actions must be consistent, transparent, and free from political considerations.

The ADC expressed concern over what it described as rapid custodial transfers of El-Rufai and Malami between law enforcement agencies while investigations are still ongoing. According to the party, such actions risk creating the perception of pre-trial punishment.

The party contrasted their situation with another high-profile case involving allegations of passport forgery and international conspiracy, noting that in that instance, the accused persons were granted bail and court proceedings are progressing.

Reaffirming that both Malami and El-Rufai are presumed innocent under the Constitution, the ADC pledged to stand by them as they pursue their legal rights.

The party also called on relevant authorities to clarify the status of the investigations, adhere strictly to constitutional safeguards against arbitrary detention, and ensure equal application of the law regardless of political affiliation.
