A horrific incident occurred on Monday evening during Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League trophy parade, when a car plowed into a crowd of celebrating fans, injuring dozens of people, including four children. Merseyside police arrested a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, believed to be the driver of the vehicle.

According to authorities, 27 people were taken to the hospital, with two individuals, one child and one adult, sustaining serious injuries. A further 20 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Four people, including a child, were trapped under the vehicle and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims described the incident as “horrific” and urged people not to speculate about the circumstances. “We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism,” she said.

Eyewitness Harry Rashid, who attended the parade with his wife and two young daughters, described the scene as “horrendous.” “This gray people carrier just pulled up from the right and just rammed into all the people at the side of us… It was extremely fast. Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car,” he said.

Rashid added that crowds of people ran over and started smashing the car’s windows. “It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people… I saw people lying on the ground, people unconscious. It was horrendous. So horrendous,” he said.
