Fire Breaks Out at MMIA Terminal 1, Emergency Teams Move to Contain Blaze, No Casualty says FAAN
A fire outbreak on Monday rocked Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, prompting an immediate emergency response from aviation and state fire authorities.
The incident, which occurred within the airport premises, triggered swift intervention from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service as well as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) fire unit.
Authorities confirmed that emergency responders were deployed to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. Details regarding the cause of the fire, the extent of damage, or possible casualties were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident, stating that its in-house firefighting teams were immediately deployed to contain and extinguish the blaze.
According to the authority, emergency response operations are ongoing, while passengers and airport personnel are being evacuated in a calm and orderly manner to prevent panic and ensure safety.
FAAN also activated mutual aid arrangements to strengthen its response, drawing support from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, among other emergency agencies.
The agency reassured the public that no loss of life had been recorded as of the time of reporting, adding that all necessary measures were being taken to safeguard lives and property.
Further updates, FAAN said, would be provided as more verified information becomes available.
Terminal 1, which serves both domestic and international passengers, is one of the busiest sections of the airport, raising fresh concerns about infrastructure safety and emergency preparedness at Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub.
