FIRST LADIES URGE GLOBAL ACTION TO EMPOWER YOUTH FOR A BETTER FUTURE

The Third Annual Global First Partners Academy has kicked off its second day in New York, with First Ladies from different continents continuing their dialogue on conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and artificial intelligence. In a statement, First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized the need for a global resolve to shape the future by promoting initiatives that support the youth and their aspirations.

Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, Bukola Kukoyi, disclosed that Senator Tinubu made the call while giving her address on the second day of the academy. “Across continents, we face a common challenge of a rapidly evolving global landscape. Whether in Lagos, London, or Los Angeles, the future is being shaped by technology, innovation, climate change, migration, and new economic paradigms,” Tinubu said.

As a lifelong educator, Tinubu’s experience has shown her that young people are creative, innovative, hardworking, and resilient. “We just need to engage them positively, believe in them, and create a conducive environment for them to thrive,” she added. Tinubu emphasized that the first step towards building a sustainable future starts with acknowledging the potential of youths and backing their aspirations with strategic initiatives.
“We cannot wait for the future to happen; we must shape it now. As Abraham Lincoln said, ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it.’ This principle continues to guide my every decision,” Tinubu stated. She also stressed the importance of meeting young people where they are, in the digital space, technology, creative industries, and conversations about climate action and governance.

The academy has featured presentations by First Partners, University Dons, and experts on various topics, including the role of Artificial Intelligence in women’s health, technological trends shaping the youth’s future, and AI in food security. As maternal figures in national and global communities, First Ladies are leveraging their unique positions to seek partnerships that provide holistic solutions to issues affecting children, women, and youths.
