France secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brazil in a high-profile international friendly as both sides intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The encounter, played at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, USA, saw Kylian Mbappé deliver a standout performance, scoring the opener in the 32nd minute with a composed chip over Brazil goalkeeper Ederson.

France doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Hugo Ekitiké, who finished off a well-worked move to put Les Bleus firmly in control.

However, the game took a dramatic turn when Dayot Upamecano was sent off in the 55th minute after a VAR review upgraded his foul to a red card, reducing France to 10 men.

Brazil capitalised on the numerical advantage late on, pulling one goal back in the 78th minute through defender Gleison Bremer, but the South American side failed to find an equaliser despite late pressure.

Despite being outshot and tested defensively, France held on to secure the win, showcasing resilience and attacking efficiency against one of their biggest rivals.

The result also sees Mbappé move to 56 international goals, just one shy of Olivier Giroud’s all-time France scoring record.

Both teams are expected to take valuable lessons from the clash as they continue preparations ahead of the World Cup.
