Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona, securing another five-year term after thousands of club members participated in the club’s presidential election.

Laporta won the vote with about 68 percent of ballots, defeating rival Víctor Font, who conceded defeat after the results became clear. More than 48,000 of the club’s 114,000 eligible members cast their votes in the election held on March 15, according to reports from Associated Press, Reuters, and ESPN.

The victory gives Laporta another mandate to lead the Spanish football giants as the club continues its financial recovery and sporting rebuilding process. The 63-year-old lawyer first served as Barcelona president between 2003 and 2010, a period widely regarded as one of the club’s most successful eras.

Laporta returned to power in 2021 amid a severe financial crisis at the club and has since overseen cost-cutting measures, the sale of some future television rights, and the ongoing redevelopment of Camp Nou, which is expected to significantly boost future revenue.

Despite criticism over rising club debt, Laporta has defended his administration, citing reduced wage bills, improved revenue streams and the emergence of promising talents such as Lamine Yamal, as well as improved performances under head coach Hansi Flick.

The newly re-elected president will officially begin the new term on July 1, 2026, with priorities including completing the Camp Nou renovation project and strengthening Barcelona’s squad to remain competitive domestically and in European competitions.
