ISIEC Fixes November 7 For Imo Local Government Elections
The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has fixed Saturday, November 7, 2026, for the conduct of local government council elections across the state.
The commission announced the new date in a statement issued on Monday, October 5, and signed by its Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, JP.
The elections were initially scheduled for September 26 but were postponed by the commission.
ISIEC said the decision to reschedule the polls followed consultations with the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Imo State chapter, and other relevant stakeholders.
The commission said an expanded stakeholders’ meeting would be convened soon, where it would unveil the amended electoral timetable and guidelines arising from the postponement.
It also apologised to political parties, chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, stakeholders and residents of the state for the inconvenience caused by the earlier postponement.
ISIEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible local government election across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.
The commission urged political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to cooperate with the electoral body as preparations begin for the November 7 exercise.
