KANO EMIRATE CRISIS ESCALATES WITH DUAL GALADIMA APPOINTMENTS

A deepening crisis in the Kano Emirate has led to the appointment of two separate Galadimas, each representing different factions and emerging from distinct turbaning ceremonies. The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, appointed Munir Sanusi Bayero as the new Galadima during a ceremony at the Kofar Kudu palace, attended by Governor Abba Yusuf and other prominent officials.

In contrast, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, appointed Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Galadima at a separate ceremony held at the Nassarawa Mini palace. This dual appointment has further intensified the ongoing dispute over the Kano Emirate’s leadership.
During the ceremony at Kofar Kudu palace, Emir Sanusi praised the appointees’ track records and family backgrounds, urging them to demonstrate loyalty, humility, and compassion. “You have been chosen based on your track records and that of your families… I urge you all to keep it up and ensure that you borrow a leaf from your fathers,” he advised.

The conflicting appointments reflect the complex power dynamics within the Kano Emirate, highlighting the challenges in resolving the current leadership dispute.
