NAWOJ Hails Veteran Broadcaster Moji Makanjuola at 70 as a Trailblazer in Journalism

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has paid glowing tribute to one of its distinguished leaders, Moji Makanjuola, MFR, legend of Cancer Control, The Jakadiyan Lafiya of Uke, as she marks her 70th birthday.

In a statement jointly signed by the National Chairperson, Hajia Aishatu Ibrahim, and the National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan, the association described Makanjuola as a trailblazer in Nigerian journalism and a committed advocate for women’s advancement in the media industry. Hajia Aishatu Ibrahim noted her contributions to professional excellence, mentorship, and the strengthening of NAWOJ during her tenure as president.

NAWOJ praised Makanjuola’s decades-long career in broadcasting, highlighting her role in promoting ethical journalism, amplifying women’s voices in national discourse, and making significant global impact on the health beat, where she has consistently championed accurate, people-centered health reporting and continues to contribute actively.

The association also acknowledged her work in capacity building, stating that she has trained and inspired countless journalists, particularly women, to pursue impactful reporting in critical sectors such as health, development, and public policy. Her commitment to using the media as a tool for social change and public enlightenment was described as exemplary.

Colleagues and members of the association commended her legacy of leadership, resilience, and service, emphasizing her courage, professionalism, and dedication to truth over the years. They noted that her influence extends beyond Nigeria, earning her respect within international journalism and development circles.
