Nigeria’s crude oil production has risen to 1.87 million barrels per day, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The Commission’s Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, disclosed this during a visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, in Abuja on Friday.

Eyesan explained that the earlier dip in production recorded in February was due to disruptions at key facilities and ongoing maintenance operations. She, however, noted that with these challenges resolved, output has begun to rebound steadily.

She expressed optimism about sustained growth in the petroleum sector, highlighting policy measures such as the “drill or drop” provision in the Petroleum Industry Act, which empowers the commission to revoke licenses for inactive oil blocks and boost productivity.

In his remarks, Edun commended the NUPRC leadership for steering the sector towards improved performance, noting that production had recently climbed to about 1.84 million barrels per day.

The development signals renewed momentum in Nigeria’s oil sector, a critical revenue source for the country’s economy.
