OLUSEGUN AWOLOWO, GRANDSON OF NIGERIA’S FOUNDING FATHER, DIES AT 62

Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of Nigerian statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has died at the age of 62. His family announced his passing in a statement on Thursday. Awolowo was a prominent lawyer and former Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.

The family described him as an exceptional statesman and a selfless servant of Nigeria. In their statement, they said, “With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Olusegun Awolowo.” They called him “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.”

According to the family, he dedicated his life to Nigeria with “vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment.” He was remembered as a “true family man, a great friend, a wonderful servant of God, and a deeply beautiful human being.” The statement added, “He loved his family. He loved his work. He loved his country. And he lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him.”

Olusegun Awolowo was the only son of the renowned fashion icon Hajiya Zainab Abah Folawiyo. The family said they are devastated but grateful for his life and legacy. Condolences will be received at his residence daily between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
