Osun Election: Adeleke’s Victory Offers Opposition Template for 2027 – G100

The G100 has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in Osun State as a major lesson for Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the outcome has demonstrated what political unity and strategic compromise can achieve.

In a statement signed by Salihu Moh. Lukman on behalf of the group on Sunday, G100 congratulated Adeleke on his victory and, more importantly, praised the people of Osun State for what it described as their determination and courage in the election.

The group also commended opposition leaders and candidates who abandoned individual ambitions and rallied behind Adeleke, arguing that their decision showed that the broader democratic interest could take precedence over personal and party ambitions.

According to G100, the significance of the Osun election extends beyond the re-election of an incumbent governor, describing the outcome as a potential template for the opposition going into 2027.

The group said Nigeria’s opposition does not necessarily lack popular support but is weakened by fragmentation, adding that the Osun experience had shown how opposition forces could become more effective when they unite around a common objective.

“Osun has provided a template for 2027,” the group said, stressing that the opposition’s ability to make compromises and consolidate its strengths behind a viable candidate could reshape the political landscape.

G100 said the decision by some governorship candidates to step down and support Adeleke demonstrated a willingness to place collective political interests above individual ambitions.

The group urged opposition leaders across the country to consider a similar approach ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that no individual candidate or political party should be considered bigger than Nigeria.

It said leaders who believe the country requires a different political direction must be prepared to demonstrate the same “courage, restraint and willingness to compromise” witnessed in Osun.

The statement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15 Osun governorship election. Reports on the result put Adeleke ahead of his closest challenger, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

G100 maintained that the lesson from Osun should now be taken beyond the state and applied to the national political contest.

“Osun has shown the pathway. The task now is to take that spirit of cooperation to the national stage,” the group said.
