SENATE APPROVES N1.814 TRILLION BUDGET FOR FCT, HIGHEST IN HISTORY

The Senate has approved a budget of N1.814 trillion for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2025 fiscal year, marking the highest budget in the territory’s history. The approved total expenditure shows an upward review from the initial proposal of N1.78 trillion forwarded by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.

A significant portion of the budget, N1.311 trillion, is allocated for capital projects, including both ongoing and new initiatives. Additionally, N150.3 billion is earmarked for personnel costs, while N352.29 billion will be spent on overhead, representing an increase of roughly N70 billion.

Lawmakers commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his development efforts, particularly in road infrastructure within the city center and expansion projects linking the suburbs. President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, expressed optimism that the newly passed budget would enhance the standard of living in the FCT.

“This budget is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of FCT residents,” Akpabio implied in his commendation of Wike’s efforts. With this substantial budget, the FCT Minister is poised to drive further development in the territory.

In a related development, the Senate considered and passed for second reading the proposed budget of N1.4 trillion for Rivers State, which is currently under emergency rule.
