EX-EKITI GOVERNOR FAYOSE DISCHARGED AND ACQUITTED IN MONEY LAUNDERING CASE

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled in favor of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, dismissing the money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court found that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against Fayose, warranting his discharge and acquittal. The EFCC had accused Fayose of money laundering and fraud during his tenure as governor, alleging that he received large sums of money for his 2014 governorship campaign and collected funds without going through financial institutions. However, the court ruled that the evidence presented was insufficient to sustain the charges. The judgment marks the end of a long-standing trial, with Fayose maintaining his innocence throughout the proceedings. The court’s decision has vindicated Fayose, clearing him of any wrongdoing.
