AUTISTIC NIGERIAN TEENAGER BREAKS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR LARGEST PAINTING
Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 15-year-old Nigerian artist, has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the Largest Painting. His record-breaking artwork, titled “Impossibility is a Myth,” was unveiled in Abuja to mark the 2025 World Autism Awareness Day. The massive canvas measures 12,303 square meters, surpassing the previous record by nearly 3,000 square meters. The artwork was revealed at Eagles’ Square, attended by dignitaries, including civil society groups, diplomats, traditional rulers, and top government officials. Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, praised Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement, calling it a “historic and inspiring milestone” that demonstrates how age and challenges are no barriers to greatness. “Every Nigerian, regardless of background or disability, has the potential to make valuable contributions,” she emphasized. Kanyeyachukwu’s father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke, shared that his son’s journey began with his love for color and a structured routine to help him focus. The theme of the artwork, “Impossibility is a Myth,” reflects the challenges they faced in creating such a large-scale painting. The UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Dr. Mohamed Fall, highlighted the importance of disability inclusion in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Sen. Victor Umeh encouraged the government to invest more in the education of autistic children, emphasizing that they can be productive with specialized education and care. The Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting talented autistic children in Nigeria. Minister Hannatu Musawa pledged to create more opportunities for autistic children to develop their creative skills and showcase their talents.
