First Lady Remi Tinubu has donated ₦1 billion to victims of recent violent attacks in Plateau State, emphasizing that the funds were personally raised through her Renewed Hope Initiative, not from government coffers. During a condolence visit to Jos, Tinubu stated that the donation was made to bring life and development to the country, rather than serving personal greed. “I have come with a donation of ₦1 billion for the Renewed Hope Initiative. Please understand that the money I have for this initiative is not government funds. It is money I have personally raised to help others,” Tinubu said. She added that her goal is to use the resources she has for good, for the development of this country, not to waste them. The First Lady urged traditional rulers in Plateau to take the lead in ensuring lasting peace in the region, warning that insecurity must not define the future of Nigerian children. “You are the custodians of this land. We as officeholders will come and go, but you will remain. Please, I urge you to bring peace to this land,” she said. Tinubu expressed hope that her visit would mark the final time she would need to respond to violence in Plateau, saying, “I pray that God will honour this, and from now on, it shall be for the progress of the state.” She also provided food items and clothing to the victims, emphasizing that her visit was from the heart of a mother, not for political reasons. Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s visit and assured her that leaders were working together to end the decades of crisis and violence in Plateau State. “Your visit means so much to us. The gestures you have extended will leave lasting memories in our hearts. By God’s grace, we are coming together to bring an end to three decades of crisis and violence in Plateau,” he said. Tinubu urged the youth to embrace peace and national unity, and encouraged children to explore Nigeria without fear. She emphasized that her love for Nigeria is not political, but about what the country has done for her, and what she can now give back.
