OHANAEZE NDIGBO CALLS FOR EQUALITY AND INCLUSION OF IGBO PEOPLE IN NATIONAL REPRESENTATION

The Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Okechukwu Nwadinobi, has called for equality and inclusion of the Igbo people in national representation, saying Igbos are proudly Nigerians. Nwadinobi made the call in a goodwill message at the 2025 National Constitutional Summit in Abuja. Speaking exclusively with CTN in an interview, Nwadinobi emphasized that the Igbo people want to be treated like other Nigerians and have equal opportunities in the country. “We are part of Nigeria. And I did also underline the fact that I said, if we are part of Nigeria, why should we have five states, when every other region has six states and one even seven?” he asked. Nwadinobi noted that the Igbo people have contributed significantly to the development of Nigeria, saying, “The pre-independence people were in the forefront of the fight for independence of Nigeria. Post-independence people were in the forefront of the making of a great Nigerian.” He also expressed concern over the underrepresentation of the Igbo people in the federal cabinet, saying, “Look at the ministers we have from there, look at the portfolios given to them. And we have one state in Nigeria that has four ministers. So what do you say to that?” Nwadinobi emphasized that the Igbo people want the best for Nigeria and for themselves. “We want the best for Nigeria. We also want the best for our people,” he said. When asked about the agitation for Biafra, Nwadinobi said, “The interpretation for Biafra has been presented in many ways. The leader of Biafra, while he was alive, talked about Biafra of the mind. And there’s no way you can take Biafra away from any IBO mind.” He added, “We have fought a war. The war has ended. There were three Rs at the time about reconstruction, rehabilitation and rebuilding of the war devastated areas. 55 years between 1970 till date. The big question to ask is, from 1970 to date, we’ve accepted that we’re back to Nigeria.”
