42 PEOPLE KILLED IN NIGER STATE BY TERRORISTS (+VIDEO)

A series of coordinated attacks by terrorists across villages in Niger State’s Agwarra and Borgu local government areas has resulted in the deaths of at least 42 individuals and the mass abduction of residents, including schoolchildren. The violence, which sources say has continued unchecked for over a week, has left communities in a state of crisis and displacement. According to local sources, the assailants have operated with impunity due to an absence of security forces. “For the last one week, they came angrily and attacked communities at freewill because there is no security presence here,” one source revealed. The attacks have been particularly severe in the villages of Kasuwa Daji and Kaima. “They killed 37 people in Kasuwa Daji near Papiri, another 5 in Kaima village and abducted many people including children,” the source stated, noting that some of the abducted children are students of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in Papiri. The source issued a desperate appeal: “The government and security agencies should come to our aid.” The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora confirmed the assault on its mission. Reverend Father Stephen Kabirat, the Director of Communications, stated, “Our Parish Priest narrowly escaped abduction when the terrorists visited our Mission House three days ago.” He reported that the attackers destroyed religious items, stole two motorbikes, and took over two hundred thousand Naira. “They were looking for the Priest but luckily he escaped,” Kabirat said, confirming the overall toll that “the terrorists have killed over forty persons and taken into captivity some persons.” The violence has created a climate of pervasive fear, forcing many from their homes. Another villager explained, “As I am talking to you, some of the villages where the abducted school children come from have been sleeping in the bushes since their return because of activities of the terrorists.” Official confirmation came from the Niger State Police Command. Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun stated that reports were received of an attack in the Kabe district on Saturday, where suspected bandits “killed over 30 persons, burnt the market and looted shops and carted away food items.” Abiodun added that a joint security team has been deployed to the area and that rescue efforts for the kidnapped victims are underway.
