BILLY JOEL CANCELS CONCERTS DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES

Legendary musician Billy Joel has canceled all his upcoming concerts across North America and England after being diagnosed with fluid buildup in his brain that has affected his “hearing, vision and balance.” Joel revealed on Instagram that he has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a brain disorder that can affect brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement, and more. According to a statement from Joel’s team, “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance.” Joel’s doctor has advised him to refrain from performing during his recovery period, and he is undergoing specific physical therapy. “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said in a statement. The cancellation includes shows at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field in New York, and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Tickets for all the shows will be refunded. This is not Joel’s first health issue recently. In March, he underwent surgery and had to undergo physical therapy, with doctors expecting him to make a full recovery. However, it is unclear if his medical issues at the time were related to Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. The 76-year-old musician had just wrapped up his decadelong residency at Madison Square Garden in July 2024 and continued to tour.

NIGERIA SUSPENDS VISA-ON-ARRIVAL POLICY FOR FOREIGNERS

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced the suspension of the visa-on-arrival policy for foreigners, citing its ineffectiveness in tracking migration. Tunji-Ojo made the declaration during the closing ceremony of a training program for Nigeria Immigration Service officers. “Nigeria is not a haven for criminals,” Tunji-Ojo emphasized. He noted that many foreigners deliberately avoid entering Nigeria by air, instead opting to enter through neighboring countries and making migration monitoring more challenging. To enhance border security, the Federal Government will introduce landing and exit cards, which visitors will be required to complete before arriving in Nigeria. An e-visa system will also be launched, enabling applicants to process visas online and integrating with the Interpol database and Nigeria’s criminal records system. The Minister stated that these measures are part of the Federal Government’s commitment to enforcing stricter migration policies to enhance national security and streamline entry procedures. The new measures are expected to take effect by March or April.
