MILITARY NEUTRALIZES OVER 21 TERRORISTS IN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTACK ON TROOPS IN DAMBOA

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have thwarted a deadly attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, neutralizing over 21 insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition. The failed attempt occurred on Friday, May 23, 2025, when the terrorists targeted troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, Damboa in Borno State. Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiaya, in a statement, said the gallant troops, bolstered by Close Air Support provided by the Air Component, engaged the terrorists in a fierce and sustained firefight that lasted over two hours. Kovangiaya said despite the terrorists’ ferocity, the troops maintained their alertness and composure, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray after suffering significant casualties. “Regrettably, the ammunition storage facility was hit by a blast during the attack, however, it was firmly brought under control by the military,” Kovangiaya stated. Reuben Kovangiaya added that the troops recorded minor casualties. The troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including 2 General Purpose Machine Guns, 3 Rocket Propelled Grenade tubes, 1 Pump Action Rifle, 9 AK47 Rifles, and 20 pieces of 36 hand grenades, among others. Reuben Kovangiaya emphasized the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the North East region, saying the troops’ determination to end terror attacks is unwavering, and their efforts will continue to be guided by their bravery and sacrifice.
