PRESIDENT TINUBU MAKES KEY APPOINTMENTS, NAMES PHILIP SHAIBU DG NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORTS

President Bola Tinubu has announced a series of key appointments, including the naming of former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, as the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports. Shaibu, who recently returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and played a crucial role in the party’s victory in the Edo 2024 governorship election, takes over with immediate effect from Prof. Olawale Moronkola. The Presidency announced the appointment of Shaibu and other notable figures, including Sen. Ken Nnamani as Chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), and Omobolanle Akinyemi Obe as Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, Abuja. Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, has congratulated Shaibu on his appointment, saying he deserves the position due to his remarkable achievements in sports development. “Without mincing words, he deserves this big appointment, because his antecedents and genuine commitment to sports development have proven that he has the capacity and capability to head and take the NIS to greater heights,” Adeyinka said. Adeyinka added that Shaibu’s expertise will be invaluable in his new role, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. Shaibu is expected to initiate reforms in the Institute to reposition it to live up to its expected heights.
