FORMER OYO STATE GOVERNOR OMOLOLU OLUNLOYO DIES AT 89
Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former Governor of Oyo State, has died at the age of 89. His family confirmed his passing in a statement released on Sunday, April 6, 2025, saying he died at 1:40 a.m. “Omololu Olunloyo passed on to eternal glory at 1:40 a.m. on the 6th of April 2025. We thank God for a life well spent. May the Lord Jesus rest his soul,” the statement read. Born on April 14, 1935, Dr. Olunloyo would have turned 90 just days after his passing. He served as the Governor of Oyo State from October 1 to December 31, 1983. The late governor was a renowned mathematician and engineer, holding traditional titles as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. Dr. Olunloyo had a distinguished career, serving as the first Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic and the pioneer Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic. His family described him as a source of pride, with a long record of service to the nation and humanity. The family has begun making arrangements for his burial and has appealed for public understanding during this difficult time. Dr. Olunloyo’s contributions to governance, education, and public service have left a lasting legacy in Nigeria.
