The Board of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has vowed to reposition the agency for environmental preservation, restore public confidence, and repair damaged ecosystems. This commitment was made known during the inaugural meeting of the recently reconstituted NOSDRA Board in Abuja on Thursday. Chairman of the NOSDRA Board, Mr. Edward Omo-Erewa, presiding over the meeting, said the new Board would focus on restoring public trust, improving governance, and enhancing stakeholder collaboration. “We recognize the critical role NOSDRA plays in safeguarding Nigeria’s environment and the health of its people. This board will work to restore public confidence, rebuild damaged ecosystems, and ensure a culture of compliance and transparency,” Omo-Erewa stated. He outlined the board’s strategic priorities as strengthening communication and governance, implementing the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan, and rebuilding public trust. NOSDRA Director General, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, affirmed the agency’s commitment to partnership with the Board for operational efficiency and regulatory enforcement. “We are prepared to engage with the board in a robust and transparent manner to ensure the agency delivers on its mandate,” Woke said. Woke thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reconstituting the Board, stating the agency is eager to achieve greater results with the new Board. The Board’s establishment is seen as a milestone in NOSDRA’s efforts for improved performance and environmental protection.
