EDO STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR CALLS FOR UNITY IN APC TO DEVELOP STATE, SAYS NO ROOM FOR DISUNITY

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has called on all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State to work together in unity to develop the State. Idahosa made the call at a new year party organized for Edo South leaders of the party held at the New Festival Hall of Government House, Benin City, Edo State. “The reason for this meeting is to bring all the political actors together in oneness and unity. God has been faithful to the APC in 2024 as the party unseated the then incumbent party in the State winning the Governorship election. God answered our prayers and we all have to be united going forward in 2025,” Idahosa said. He acknowledged some pockets of division in the party but called on all aggrieved members to come together in unity to support the Senator Okpebholo-led administration to bring the dividends of democracy to Edo people. “There are pockets of division across the State but it is high time we did away with the grievances and come together in unison to move the party and State forward. Edo South should take the lead in terms of uniting the party,” he urged. Idahosa appealed to members to allow the meeting to bring an end to every faction in the party, as the party needs unity to grow and develop the State. “This is the time to come together and be united in all we do across the State especially in the seven Local Governments area in Edo South. I appeal to us all to be united to build a strong party and a strong State,” he said. A former Governorship candidate of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, echoed Idahosa’s sentiments, saying the party no longer has room for those causing disunity. “We thank all party members for their support and collaboration ensuring APC is in power in Edo State. We have been united in all we do as a party. That was why we were able to defeat the incumbent party but I urge us all to ensure the unity continues to ensure our party performs for Edo people,” he said. Ize-Iyamu emphasized that the party will not create room for those causing disunity. “Henceforth, the party will not create room for those who are causing disunity in the party. This is a time to be united to develop Edo State as the doors are open only for those who want to join hands with the party to ensure Edo people enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

FACTIONAL PDP, A SECURITY THREAT TO GOVERNANCE IN EDO STATE

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarret Tenebe has stated that the factional Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee’s allegations against the Edo State Government are unfounded and libelous. In a release circulated to CTN, Tenebe emphasized that Governor Monday Okpebholo, as the Chief Executive of the State, has a responsibility to ensure that all tiers of government operate within the law. The suspension of local government chairmen and vice chairmen by the House of Assembly was done to maintain order and stability in the State, Tenebe explained. He noted that the Edo State Laws provide a framework for governance, and the government has a duty to protect citizens’ interests and maintain public order. Tenebe criticized the factional PDP Caretaker Committee for accusing Governor Okpebholo of “lawlessness” and “extermination of constitutional democracy.” He argued that the committee should engage in constructive dialogue instead of making baseless accusations. Tenebe also pointed out that the people of Edo State are aware of the PDP’s tactics and are not swayed by their allegations. Under the previous PDP administration in Edo State, led by Godwin Obaseki, the state witnessed the biggest financial heist in history, Tenebe claimed. He alleged that the PDP government removed and suspended local government chairmen, abused citizens’ rights, and demolished opposition members’ properties despite valid court orders. Tenebe expressed support for the actions taken by the House of Assembly and urged anti-graft agencies to recover stolen funds perpetuated by the PDP. He also commended councillors who impeached corrupt and inept suspended chairmen. Tenebe reiterated that Governor Okpebholo has a clear mandate and will not be distracted by the PDP’s allegations. As Tenebe stated, “Enough is enough!”
