FUOYE VICE-CHANCELLOR SUSPENDED OVER SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS
The Governing Council of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina over sexual harassment allegations made by Engr. Folasade Adebayo, a senior university official. Following the Minister of Education’s dissatisfaction with the initial decision to dismiss the claims, the Council convened an emergency meeting and resolved to suspend Fasina. However, Fasina pleaded to proceed on accumulated leave instead of facing outright suspension, and the Council approved his request, granting him six months’ leave effective immediately. “The Governing Council of FUOYE, at its 7th Emergency Meeting held online on Monday, 14th April 2025, approved six months of Annual and Research Leave for Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina,” a statement by the Registrar confirmed. Prof. Samuel Olubunmi Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months. The development comes as the university takes steps to address the allegations and ensure a smooth transition of leadership with Fasina’s tenure set to end in August 2025.
