Dele Farotimi Granted ₦30M Bail on Criminal Defamation Charge; Barred from Media Interviews

After 16days in detention, author and lawyer, Dele Farotimi has been admitted to bail in the sum of N30m by an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court. He is to provide a surety in like sum and who must have landed property within the jurisdiction of the court. He is also barred by the court from granting press interview.Farotimi was sent to a correctional facility on a Holden charge on criminal defamation.The case is on the petition to the police by Safe Babalola SAN claiming that he was defamed.The defamation is said to be contained in a book written by Farotimi in which he made corruption allegation against the silk and some judicial officers.However Farotimi is standing by his allegation and prepared to lead evidence in court to support his claim The trial is expected to be at a higher court of competent jurisdiction at a date yet to be fixed
