NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RECORDS MAJOR WINS IN KADUNA STATE SECURITY OPERATIONS

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in enhancing security in Kaduna State, with recent operations yielding impressive results. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during press briefing, highlighted the accomplishments on April 10, 2025. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Kaduna State Police Command, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), successfully rescued 17 individuals abducted from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, on March 3, 2025. The rescued victims, aged between 1 and 35, underwent medical examinations at the Police Clinic in Kaduna and are in stable condition. In a separate operation, police operatives intercepted a Volkswagen Sharan vehicle at Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna, confiscating 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed inside. The suspect, 27-year-old Jamilu Suleiman, confessed to being instructed by a union member to deliver the weapons to an unidentified individual. Investigations into the arms trafficking syndicate are ongoing. The police also responded swiftly to a distress call regarding an armed robbery in progress at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. A fierce shootout ensued, resulting in the neutralization of two robbers and the apprehension of two suspects with injuries. One suspect later died at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the surviving suspect is assisting with ongoing investigations. ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding lives and property across the nation.

GOV OKPEBHOLO ORDERS PROBE INTO KILLING OF 7 SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN UROMI, CONDEMNS ACT AS BARBARIC

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing of seven persons in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, describing the act as barbaric. The Governor condemned the setting ablaze of the suspected kidnappers by residents of the community, vowing to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law. In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, the Governor was quoted as saying that such acts of mob justice are unacceptable in the state. Represented by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Government House, SP Solomon Osaghale, Governor Okpebholo stressed that nobody has the right to take another person’s life, no matter the circumstances. SP Osaghale, who was dispatched to Uromi to assess the situation, revealed that the victims were passengers in a commercial truck when they were stopped by local security operatives. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered firearms, leading to a mob attack. He confirmed that four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. Fred Itua stated that the Governor has directed the Commissioner of Police to launch a thorough investigation to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences. The CSO assured residents, particularly the Hausa community in Uromi, of their safety, noting that security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace. The leader of the Hausa community in Uromi, Mallam Aliyu Haruna, expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his swift response. Haruna described the incident as unprecedented, emphasizing the longstanding peaceful coexistence between indigenes and the Hausa community, some of whom have lived in the area for over 70 years. Fred Itua reiterated the Governor’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and fostering a secure environment for all residents. He urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement agencies to conclude their investigations. SEMINARIAN DIES IN KIDNAPPERS’ DEN, POLICE CONTINUE SEARCH FOR REMAINS

A Seminarian, Peter Andrew, who was kidnapped alongside a Catholic priest on March 3 at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Edo State, has died in captivity. The Edo Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, disclosed this on Friday morning, March 14. According to Yamu, “Intensive search and rescue operations by police operatives and vigilance members led to the release of the Rev. Father (Philip Ekeli) on 13/03/2025 at about 1652hrs in Amughe community.” Yamu added that “Bush combing continues, with a view to recover the remains of the Seminarian, who regrettably lost his life in the process, as well as to arrest the remaining gang of the kidnappers.” It was reported that one of the suspected kidnappers was killed and four suspected criminals were arrested on the day of the kidnap. The police are still searching for Andrew’s remains and working to apprehend the remaining kidnappers.

TROOPS RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, ARREST KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER WEAPONS AND RANSOM MONEY IN KADUNA STATE

Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN have rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested three kidnappers in Kaduna State. The operation, which was conducted on March 2, 2025, was part of the recently launched Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A. According to reports, troops made contact with the kidnappers in Boto Forest, Zangon Kataf LGA, and subdued them with superior firepower. The kidnappers were forced to abandon their victims and flee. The rescued victims, who were debriefed and reunited with their families, included Mr. Abdullahi Saleh, 38; Master Blessed Haruna, 17; Mrs. Mary Nuhu, 32; Mrs. Charity Nuhu, 35; and Mr. Abubakar Wakili, 25. Troops also arrested three kidnappers, identified as Mr. Abubakar Shehu, 30; Mr. Mohammed Sani, 20; and Mr. Adamu Mohammed, 25. The suspects are currently in custody, making useful confessions to aid troops in follow-up operations. The operation also led to the recovery of one fabricated revolver rifle, 9 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), 2 mobile phones, 2 machetes, 32 rustled cows, and a cash sum of N521,000 suspected to be ransom money. One of the rescued victims, who sustained machete cut injuries, was evacuated to the hospital for treatment. The successful operation is a significant milestone in the efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry in Kaduna State.

POLICE INTENSIFY CRACKDOWN ON ORGANIZED CRIME, RESCUE 16 VICTIMS

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its efforts to strengthen national security and curb crimes, particularly human trafficking and kidnapping. In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the police operatives have rescued 13 trafficked victims and 3 kidnapped victims in separate operations. The first operation took place on January 31, 2025, when police operatives attached to the Kaduna State Command apprehended three suspects – Samson Peter, Haruna Duniya, and Abdulazaq Olawole – who were trafficking 13 victims to Oyo State. Adejobi stated that the victims were rescued, and the investigation is ongoing. In another operation, police operatives of the Ogun State Command carried out a covert operation on January 29, 2025, and located the den of kidnappers responsible for an earlier reported abduction. Adejobi said the operatives engaged the gang in a gun duel, neutralizing five gang members and rescuing the three kidnapped victims. The police also recovered arms, ammunition, mobile phones, and a cash sum of N5.2 million. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their gallantry and dedication to duty. Adejobi quoted the IGP as saying, “The Police Force remains committed to effectively combatting all security threats.”

THREE KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED IN EDO STATE

The Edo State Security Corp has arrested three young men in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, in connection with a kidnapping incident. The arrest was made possible by a distress call from a woman, Mrs. Ufuha Rita, who was being targeted by the kidnappers. According to the Commander of the Edo State Security Corp, retired Commissioner of Police Friday Ibadin, the woman hid in a bush while his men rescued her and later arrested three of the seven young men who invaded her residence. Ibadin noted that the victim identified the suspects, and they have confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping. The suspects, Asene Ogah, 49, Ibhafidon Eric, 29, and Ekpu Godfrey, 44, were found with two locally made pump action guns. Ekpu Godfrey confessed to having been involved in kidnapping in the past but claimed to no longer be involved. Ibadin warned other criminals in the state that Edo will be hot for them unless they relocate to other states. He also stated that the Edo State Security Corp has done its part, and the suspects will be handed over to the police for further investigation. Mrs. Ufuha Rita thanked the Edo State Security Corp for saving her life and called on relevant security agencies to protect her from the Esan Awareness group, which she claimed was behind the kidnapping. She alleged that since the group was formed, kidnapping and other criminal activities have increased in the area. The Esan Awareness group was created by one Mr. Bruce, who lives in Sweden, and claims to be securing the Esan people. However, Mrs. Ufuha Rita stated that the group is working against the security of the Esan people, and her life is now threatened by the group.
