GOV OKPEBHOLO WARNS AGAINST IMPORTATION OF MERCENARIES AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has warned against the importation of mercenaries to destabilize Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Governor made this statement when he received the President of the Northern Youth Association of Nigeria (NYAN), Comrade Godiya Adams Bogoro, and other Northern youth leaders. Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Fred Itua, in a statement, quoted Governor Okpebholo as urging Nigerians to join hands to tackle insecurity and live peacefully as brothers and sisters. “Politics is around the corner, and crises have started showing up again. People cannot continue to use the youths as instruments of destruction for their own selfish gains,” Okpebholo said. Fred Itua further noted that the Governor emphasized the importance of Nigerian youths shunning violence and destruction. The Governor recalled the 2015 incident where mercenaries were allegedly brought into the country, stating that Nigerians should stand firm against such moves this time around. “We should know as youths that tomorrow belongs to us, and we should not allow ourselves to be used to destroy it,” Okpebholo added. Fred Itua also mentioned that the Governor thanked the Northern youth leaders for appreciating his administration’s efforts in resolving the Uromi incident. The Governor urged all Nigerians to collaborate to protect the nation, condemning the Uromi incident in totality. Fred Itua quoted Okpebholo as saying, “We urge all Nigerians to collaborate to protect the nation. As Nigerians, we love life and do not enjoy killings. These people who do all these things are not Nigerians.” The Northern delegation leader, Comrade Godiya Adams Bogoro, commended the Governor’s administration for its prompt response and commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Edo State. The Governor also hosted the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, where he admonished members to shun drugs and violence for a better future.

AFRICA TAKES A STAND: RWANDA DEPORTS U.S. MERCENARIES AND ILLEGAL MINERS

In a bold move, Rwanda has deported individuals identified as U.S. mercenaries and illegal miners, sending a clear message that Africa will no longer tolerate foreign exploitation. This decisive action reflects a broader sentiment within the continent, emphasizing Africa’s autonomy and its critical role in the global landscape. The presence of foreign actors involved in unauthorized mining activities has long been a contentious issue in Africa. Such activities not only deprive nations of valuable resources but also lead to environmental degradation and social unrest. Rwanda’s recent deportations highlight the country’s commitment to safeguarding its resources and asserting control over its affairs. According to reports, the U.S. Department of State has previously accused Rwanda and Uganda of illegally extracting minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo, allegations that have been met with counter-accusations and denials. However, Rwanda’s actions demonstrate the country’s resolve to manage its resources independently and challenge external influences that may undermine its sovereignty. As Africa continues to develop economically and politically, Rwanda’s actions signal a new era of assertiveness, with African nations taking bold steps to protect their interests and assert their rightful place in the global order. The message is clear: Africa is no longer willing to be a passive player but is emerging as a powerful entity, essential to the world’s economic and strategic interests. As the situation evolves, it remains to be seen how these developments will influence international relations and the operations of foreign entities within Africa. However, one thing is certain: Africa’s voice is growing stronger, and the world is taking notice.
