The Nigerian military has achieved significant success in its battle against terrorism and insurgency, with the neutralization of 13,543 terrorists and the rescue of nearly 10,000 hostages between May 2023 and February 2025. The military’s efforts have led to the elimination of notorious terrorist leaders, the capture of over 17,000 suspects, and the surrender of more than 124,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP combatants and their families. According to Abubakar, the military’s strategy has enabled thousands of displaced Nigerians to return to their homes. In addition to these achievements, the military has recovered a substantial amount of arms and ammunition and restored peace to numerous communities. Abubakar also announced plans for Nigeria to start exporting locally manufactured military equipment by 2025, which will not only boost the country’s defence capabilities but also generate revenue. The Defence Minister emphasized that the military is working to strengthen its operations and is committed to bringing peace to the affected regions. With the current progress, Nigeria is poised to make significant strides in its fight against terrorism and insecurity.
