SDP SACKS FORMER CHAIRMAN, TOP OFFICIALS OVER MISCONDUCT AND FINANCIAL IMPROPRIETY
The Social Democratic Party has expelled its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and several top officials including the National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, following allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office. The decision was announced on Thursday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba. Addressing journalists at the party’s National Secretariat, Aiyenigba stated that the expulsion was the outcome of months of investigation and disciplinary proceedings. He said, “The move followed the adoption of the report of the Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper which reviewed the findings and recommendations on the allegations brought against the affected officers.” He recalled that the National Working Committee had initially suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and the National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, on June 24, 2025, after a prima facie case was established. Aiyenigba detailed the process, noting, “To ensure due process, the party constituted an independent Disciplinary Committee on July 4, 2025, which conducted a two-week investigation and submitted its report on July 18, 2025.” He explained that the NWC subsequently reviewed and adopted the White Paper on August 15, 2025, which paved the way for the final expulsion decision. Those expelled are Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the former National Chairman, and Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, the former National Youth Leader. The National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, was relieved of his duties following his voluntary resignation. Other expelled members are Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu. These individuals were accused of disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat on July 28, 2025. Aiyenigba disclosed that these expelled members were apprehended by security operatives while allegedly in possession of sensitive documents and valuables removed from the secretariat and are currently facing criminal prosecution. He emphasized that the disciplinary measures were necessary to “restore integrity, discipline, and internal order within the SDP,” adding that other administrative recommendations from the White Paper would be implemented to prevent future breaches. “The actions take immediate effect from Thursday, October 23, 2025,” Aiyenigba stated, confirming that the decision was unanimously endorsed by all members of the National Working Committee. He concluded by saying the NWC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and constitutional order in the administration of the Social Democratic Party. This action follows the initial suspension of the officials on June 24, 2025, over allegations of financial misconduct, embezzlement, and diversion of party funds.
