PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS ON MILITARY TO PROTECT NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC INTERESTS AGAINST TERRORISTS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigeria’s military to safeguard the country’s economic interests against disruptive actions by terrorists and insurgents, stressing that tackling insecurity is vital to preventing economic collapse. The President made the call on Saturday at the combined passing-out parade of cadets from the 72 Regular Course, Short Service Course, and Branch Commission Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna. Speaking through the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu said the military must confront insurgency to halt threats to national security and revitalize the Armed Forces. “The military must tackle insurgency to prevent the collapse of the economy, revitalize the Armed Forces and eradicate all forms of threats to the security of the country,” he stated. President Tinubu commended the NDA for adopting technological approaches in training and military research aimed at boosting efficiency and effectiveness in operations. “I commend the Nigerian Defence Academy for technological approaches in training and military research, focusing on improving efficiency and effectiveness in current and future operations,” he said. Congratulating the passing-out cadets, President Tinubu emphasized the critical moment for them to demonstrate valour and virtues instilled by the NDA in defence of Nigeria. “There was no better time to prove their valour and demonstrate the virtues upon which the NDA was founded in the defence of their fatherland,” he noted. He also applauded the institution’s recent overhaul of training curricula and methodologies to align with contemporary operational dynamics. A total of 472 cadets were commissioned into the military arms – 218 into the Army, 135 into the Navy, and 119 into the Airforce, alongside Short Service Cadets. Six cadets received special honours for outstanding performance in academics, military training, and extracurricular activities.

NIGERIA DEFENCE ACADEMY HOSTS 35TH CONVOCATION, OVER 2,000 GRADUATES

The Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) held its 35th Annual Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, 25th September, 2025, at its permanent site in Afaka, Kaduna State, Acting Director Information and Public Relations, Enderline Chukwu, said in a statement. Enderline Chukwu indicated the ceremony honoured 72 Regular Course Cadets and postgraduate students, with Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima as Special Guest of Honour. The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, was represented by Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa. NDA Commandant Major General A K Ibrahim noted academic courses are fully accredited by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC). “The management’s passion for capacity building, discipline, optimum performance and skills has propelled most of its cadets to excel in various disciplines in foreign missions,” Ibrahim stated. The convocation included conferment of degrees, presentation of certificates and academic prizes. Graduates comprised Cadet Officers, postgraduate diploma, master’s, and Ph.D holders across disciplines. Academic awards recognised best cadets with at least second class upper division. The Minister of Defence Award went to CDT G.A. Olowokere, best graduating cadet in Engineering and Technology. A total of 2,618 students participated in the ceremony. Enderline Chukwu noted honorary degrees were awarded to distinguished Nigerians. Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Sunday Musa Attah, was among dignitaries present. Enderline Chukwu highlighted the event underscored NDA’s commitment to excellence.
