NEW ORLEANS TERROR ATTACK: DRIVER KILLS 10, INJURES 30 IN FRENCH QUARTER RAMPAGE
A devastating terrorist attack occurred in New Orleans’ French Quarter on New Year’s Day, leaving 10 people dead and 30 injured. The attack happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street, a popular destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations. According to Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick, the driver of a pickup truck was “hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did.” Kirkpatrick described the driver’s behavior as “very intentional,” stating that “he was trying to run over as many people as he could.” The FBI is investigating the incident, and Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, confirmed that at least one suspected improvised explosive device was discovered at the scene. The city’s emergency preparedness department, NOLA Ready, reported that the injured were taken to five local hospitals. The White House stated that President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation. Commissioner Kirkpatrick assured the public that police officers would work to ensure safety at the Sugar Bowl college football playoff game, scheduled to take place later in the day at the nearby Superdome. “It was very intentional behavior, but we’re going to make sure that everybody is safe,” Kirkpatrick said.
