NIGERIA POLICE FORCE NEUTRALISES SEVEN TERRORISTS, RECOVERS 23 ARMS AND AMMUNITION

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has neutralised seven terrorists and recovered 23 arms and ammunition in various parts of the country. According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police operatives attached to the Kebbi State Command trailed and engaged some kidnappers in a fierce gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of four kidnappers and the arrest of one with fatal injuries. The police also rescued the kidnapped victim, Umaru Bawa, aged 60, who was abducted from Gobiraje Village in Suru LGA of Kebbi State on February 14, 2025. The operatives recovered the cash sum of Three Million Naira (N3,000,000) already paid to the kidnappers as ransom. In another operation, the police neutralised two Eastern Security Network (ESN) kingpins and recovered seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of assorted live ammunition in Imo State. The operation was carried out by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Imo State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the brave efforts of the operatives involved and emphasized the need for continued vigilance in the fight against crime. He assured that the police would continue to work tirelessly to ensure a safer environment for all Nigerians. “The Force assures members of the public that these operations will continue with renewed vigour as it strives to ensure a safer environment for all Nigerians,” the IGP said. “As part of these ongoing efforts, the IGP has called for increased intelligence gathering, community engagement, and prompt reporting of suspicious activities by citizens.”

POLICE NEUTRALIZE ESN TERRORIST KINGPINS, RECOVER DANGEROUS WEAPONS IN IMO

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, announced that the Nigeria Police Force has achieved a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against terrorism with the neutralization of three deadly terrorist kingpins associated with the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State. The operation, which took place on January 24, 2025, resulted in the neutralization of six members of the terrorist group, with three being ESN kingpins identified as Ifeanyi Anayo a.k.a. Zuma De Rock (28), Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe a.k.a. Nmimi (22), and Kingsley Sunday (21). Adejobi stated that the operatives also recovered five AK-47 rifles, 552 rounds of live ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), several communication equipment, along with eight operational motorcycles used by the group. Prior investigations had revealed the involvement of the group in several high-profile crimes, including the attack on the Owerri Correctional Center on April 5, 2021, and the killing of five policemen in Umunna, Okigwe, on December 12, 2022. Adejobi noted that the group was also involved in multiple kidnappings, including those of WAEC staff on June 5, 2023, and four Chinese nationals on December 6, 2023. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended the gallant operatives for their exceptional display of bravery and coordination. Adejobi quoted the IGP as charging police operatives across commands and formations to sustain the tempo and implement the Force’s action plan aimed at reducing crimes drastically in the first quarter of the year 2025. Adejobi emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains unyielding in its goal towards ensuring national security and public safety.

POLICE ARREST SUSPECT FOR SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION AGAINST FORCE

The Nigeria Police Force has taken decisive action to curb the spread of fake news, disinformation, and incitement capable of widening the trust gap between the Police and members of the public. In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that on December 8, 2024, operatives of the Force apprehended one Destiny Ekhorutomuen, a 38-year-old suspect, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspect allegedly created and operated multiple social media accounts to disseminate false and inciting content aimed at provoking the public against the Nigeria Police. Adejobi stated that the Nigeria Police reiterates its zero tolerance for acts aimed at threatening the nation’s stability or tarnishing the reputation of the police and other government institutions. “This deliberate spread of falsehoods erodes public trust, undermines societal cohesion, and poses significant risks to national security,” he added. The Nigeria Police Force strongly warns against the misuse of social media and other communication platforms to propagate fake news or incite disorder. Adejobi emphasized that such acts are criminal and punishable under the law. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of information, as the collective peace and unity of the nation depend on it. Adejobi reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order. He noted that the Force will continue to identify and prosecute individuals or groups engaging in activities that threaten Nigeria’s peace and security.

NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RE-STRATEGIZES TO COMBAT KIDNAPPING, NEUTRALIZES 3 KIDNAPPERS

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to curbing kidnapping and similar crimes across the country. In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the police successfully carried out a hostage rescue operation on December 31, 2024, at Kwande LGA, Benue State, neutralizing three kidnappers in the process. ACP Adejobi stated that the police operatives received a distress call concerning the kidnap of one Tor Gajir by unknown gunmen at the Kwande LGA. The operatives swiftly escalated the investigation, following the trail to one Desmond Ahar, who led them to the kidnappers’ den at Adikpo, Benue State. Adejobi noted that the kidnappers engaged the police in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of three suspects, while others fled with bullet wounds. The victim, Tor Gajir, was rescued unhurt and given medical attention to assess any physical or psychological impact. The operation also led to the recovery of 2 AK-47 rifles and 6 loaded magazines, with several live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and recover other arms. In a similar operation in Nasarawa State, police operatives rescued two hostages who had been captured by kidnappers. The victims were rescued unhurt, and efforts are still ongoing to arrest the fleeing kidnappers. Additionally, on January 7, 2025, police operatives in Bayelsa State intercepted a suspect, Usman Mohammed, en route to Rivers State, recovering 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 Type 09 AR, and 120 rounds of ammunition. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their successes, charging them to sustain the tempo to attain excellence in internal security and safety in Nigeria. IGP Egbetokun encouraged members of the community to remain vigilant and volunteer to play their role towards ensuring public safety and general security in Nigeria.
