APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN SAYS PARTY’S DOORS ARE OPEN FOR KWANKWASO

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that the ruling party is ready to give former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, a red carpet into its fold. Yilwatda said the APC’s doors remain open to the opposition figure, even though no formal talks are currently underway. “Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s most welcome, though we are not yet in negotiation with him,” he said during an interview on Sunday. The comments come amid shifting political alliances in Kano State, following the recent defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC. Several members of the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives also moved to the ruling party alongside the governor. This development has fueled speculation that the APC is working to strengthen its grip on Kano, considered a key state ahead of the 2027 general election. Separately, Yilwatda also defended President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, describing them as strategic engagements aimed at boosting Nigeria’s global profile, attracting investments and enhancing security partnerships. According to him, the President’s experience and international connections enable him to achieve in days what others might take years to accomplish. He maintained that the trips should be seen as acts of service to the nation rather than personal indulgence, stressing their importance in driving economic growth and securing bilateral agreements for the country.

NNPP CRISIS DEEPENS AS HIGH COURT VALIDATES SUSPENSION OF KANO CHAIRMAN, ABIYA EMERGES NEW CHAIR

The internal crisis rocking the New Nigerian Peoples Party has further deepened as a Kano State High Court has affirmed the suspension of its state chairman, Honorable Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa. The court also restrained him from parading himself as the Chairman of the NNPP in Kano pending the final determination of the suit. The ruling was delivered by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf of State High Court 13 on Friday following a motion exparte dated December 30th, 2025. The motion was filed by Shuaibu Hassan and nine others, who are members of the Gargari ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area, against Hon. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa and the NNPP. The plaintiffs had sought the court to uphold the disciplinary processes and subsequent suspension of Dungurawa from the party. The allegations against him include denigrating the office and person of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, creating division within the party, and failure to pay party dues. Through their lawyers, K. Njidda Esq and S. A. Muhammad Esq, the plaintiffs also moved an originating summon seeking the court to determine whether the action against Dungurawa was in accordance with the provisions of the NNPP’s constitution. Granting the interlocutory injunction, Justice Yusuf stated, “AN ORDER that the suspension of the 1st respondent on the 30th December, 2025 shall be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.” The judge added, “The applicants are hereby ordered that the process be served on the respondents.” The court further ordered all parties to maintain the status quo ante as it was after December 30th, 2025. The case, with suit number KN/1218/2026, has been adjourned to January 19th, 2026 for hearing on the substantive motion. Justice Yusuf elaborated, “Dungurawa is restrained from parading himself as Chairman following his suspension from his ward pending hearing of the substantive motion.” In a related development, the State Executive Council of the NNPP has affirmed the nomination of Honorable Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the new Acting State Chairman of the party in Kano State. This decision follows the suspension of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa. The appointment was endorsed by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano. The decision was announced by Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, the Assistant Legal Adviser of the party. He said, “Abiya’s appointment was in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.”

NNPP DISSOLVES ALL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES IN KANO STATE

The New Nigeria People’s Party has announced the complete dissolution of its party structures across Kano State. The dissolution includes the State Executive Committee, all Local Government Executive Committees, and all Ward Executive Committees. In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, said the decision was made by the National Working Committee in accordance with the party’s constitution. Johnson stated that caretaker committees to act in the interim will be announced presently. The statement further conveyed the NWC’s gratitude to all former office holders. “The NWC of the party thanked all those who had held one position or the other in the state, local government and ward structures and assured them that the party appreciates all that they have done,” Bamofin Ladipo Johnson said. The party did not immediately specify the reasons for the sweeping dissolution. Johnson confirmed that the caretaker committees would be unveiled soon to manage the party’s affairs at all levels in Kano State.

CNPP BLASTS NNPCL CEO OVER SENATE PROBE BOYCOTT, DEMANDS INDEPENDENT JUDICIAL PROBE

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has condemned the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Bayo Ojulari, over his repeated failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts. In a statement signed by Deputy National Publicity Secretary Comrade James Ezema, the CNPP described Ojulari’s actions as a direct affront to democratic institutions. Comrade James Ezema stated that the real problem lies in the National Assembly’s long-standing failure to assert its constitutional authority. “It is, therefore, laughable to see the Senate Committee on Public Accounts wailing and issuing empty threats after being snubbed again by the NNPCL GCEO,” Ezema said. He added that the committee is merely reaping what the Senate has sown over the years. The CNPP maintained that this latest episode is not surprising, as the 10th National Assembly appears more interested in performance than in genuine oversight. Ezema noted that the continued erosion of oversight power by the legislature has emboldened appointees and heads of agencies like Ojulari to treat summons with disdain, a practice that is now institutionalized. The group reiterated its demand for a sweeping judicial probe into the operations and finances of the NNPCL from 2017 to 2024. Ezema expressed deep concern that the current management team is already setting new records in impunity and disrespect for institutional oversight. The CNPP emphasized its consistent demand for a comprehensive and independent audit of the NNPCL, especially in light of widespread allegations involving zero remittances to the Federation Account, fraudulent turnaround maintenance of refineries, and scandalous recruitment practices. Ezema said the National Assembly, particularly the Senate, has repeatedly failed to hold the oil corporation accountable. The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately constitute a panel of inquiry with judicial powers to investigate the NNPCL. “The Senate has proven itself incapable of holding the NNPCL to account. The only path to uncovering the monumental fraud that has defined our oil and gas sector is through an independent, uncompromised, and transparent judicial probe,” Ezema reiterated.

KWANKWASO CONDEMNS DEFECTION, SAYS IT’S THE GREATEST POLITICAL SIN

The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly condemned the act of defecting to rival political parties after winning elections, describing it as the “greatest political sin.” Speaking at his residence in Kano, Kwankwaso criticized recent defections from the party, particularly those of Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila and Rep. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). “There is no greater political sin than turning your back on the people who rejected deceivers and stood by you,” Kwankwaso said. He emphasized that the Kwankwasiyya movement is people-driven and not motivated by financial gain. “This movement is one to be proud of. Its mission is clear: to empower the people,” Kwankwaso stated. He also warned political opponents not to underestimate the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement, calling it “a solid wall” that cannot be easily broken. Kwankwaso recounted how some politicians attempted to destabilize the Kwankwasiyya movement in 2015, but the movement survived due to its strong ideological foundation and the resilience of its supporters. “Some joined us with dishonest intentions,” he said. “But thank God, the movement did not derail.” The NNPP leader also criticized voters in Kano South who allegedly traded their votes for spaghetti and ₦2,000 during elections, contrasting them with the steadfast support from Kano’s poor masses. “Those who try to fight us soon realize how tough it is,” Kwankwaso warned. Kwankwaso concluded by congratulating new NNPP members from Takai Local Government Area and urging them to remain committed to the cause of uplifting the common man.
