CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS COMMEND NCTC ON NEW COUNTER-TERRORISM STRATEGY

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice and Media Partners for Development have commended the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) on the successful validation exercise of the draft National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST) 2025. In a joint press statement, the groups welcomed the NACTEST 2025, which emphasizes prevention alongside response, strengthens inter-agency coordination, and embeds resilience, inclusivity, and community engagement at the core of Nigeria’s security architecture. National Coordinator of the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice, Comrade James Okoronkwo, in the statement, said the comprehensive approach is crucial in addressing the complex challenges of terrorism in Nigeria. Comrade James Okoronkwo further stated that Nigeria’s Counter Terrorism Strategy (2025) is reflective of national priorities while meeting the highest international standards. The groups extended their profound appreciation to the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, for facilitating the development of the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (2025). They also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to boosting the campaign to stem terrorism in Nigeria. “We welcome the NACTEST 2025, which emphasizes prevention alongside response, strengthens inter-agency coordination, and embeds resilience, inclusivity, and community engagement at the core of Nigeria’s security architecture,” Comrade James Okoronkwo and Convener of Media Partners for Development, Mr. Johnson Eze, stated. FCT POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT AFTER ONSA OFFICIAL’S VEHICLE STOLEN

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the theft of a black Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nuhu Ribadu. The vehicle was stolen on Friday while an official attended Juma’at prayers at a nearby mosque in Area 10, Abuja. According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the vehicle was parked opposite the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) complex around 1:05 p.m. and was discovered missing when the official returned from prayers. The incident was promptly reported to the Garki Police Division at approximately 2:00 p.m., triggering a swift response from law enforcement agencies. In response to the theft, the FCT Police Command launched a citywide stop-and-search operation aimed at tracking down the culprits and recovering the stolen vehicle. “The Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen Hilux,” a police spokesperson stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident. Police authorities have confirmed that investigations are underway, with efforts focused on locating the stolen vehicle and apprehending those responsible. The Command assured the public that it is committed to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the capital city. Vehicle thefts remain a persistent challenge in Abuja, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced even by high-profile institutions such as the Office of the National Security Adviser. This incident has further underscored the need for enhanced security measures during public gatherings and high-traffic periods.
