PRESIDENCY DISCLAIMS 2027 CAMPAIGN BILLBOARDS NATIONWIDE
The Presidency has expressed dismay over the increasing number of billboards promoting the 2027 campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in some cities. The billboards, featuring pictures of the President and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have been spotted in Abuja and Kano. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified in a statement that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima do not support any campaign that breaches the laws of the land. Bayo Onanuga emphasized that premature campaigning can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages. “The electoral law that guides the conduct of elections and political campaigns forbids any form of campaign for the 2027 general elections,” Bayo Onanuga said. Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the timetable for the 2027 elections, President Tinubu has not endorsed or authorized anyone or any group to mount a 2027 campaign for him through any media channel. Bayo Onanuga urged individuals and groups funding the 2027 political campaign through billboards nationwide to cease immediately. “President Tinubu and his deputy are fully committed to delivering the ongoing task of nation-building they have set for themselves,” Bayo Onanuga added. The President’s focus on economic revitalization, human capital development, infrastructural renewal, social investment, and national security demonstrates his commitment to nation-building. Bayo Onanuga assured that when INEC signals the start of the 2027 election process, President Tinubu will inform Nigerians of his plans.
