NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RECORDS MAJOR WINS IN KADUNA STATE SECURITY OPERATIONS

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in enhancing security in Kaduna State, with recent operations yielding impressive results. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during press briefing, highlighted the accomplishments on April 10, 2025. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Kaduna State Police Command, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), successfully rescued 17 individuals abducted from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, on March 3, 2025. The rescued victims, aged between 1 and 35, underwent medical examinations at the Police Clinic in Kaduna and are in stable condition. In a separate operation, police operatives intercepted a Volkswagen Sharan vehicle at Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna, confiscating 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles concealed inside. The suspect, 27-year-old Jamilu Suleiman, confessed to being instructed by a union member to deliver the weapons to an unidentified individual. Investigations into the arms trafficking syndicate are ongoing. The police also responded swiftly to a distress call regarding an armed robbery in progress at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. A fierce shootout ensued, resulting in the neutralization of two robbers and the apprehension of two suspects with injuries. One suspect later died at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the surviving suspect is assisting with ongoing investigations. ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to dismantling criminal networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding lives and property across the nation.

KEBBI POLICE RESCUE KIDNAPPED FEDERAL UNIVERSITY STUDENT UNHURT

The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully rescued a 23-year-old student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Augustine Madubiya, who was kidnapped on April 8, 2025, at Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The rescue operation was carried out by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes at Dakingari forest on April 10, 2025. According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, the kidnappers abandoned their victim and fled upon sighting the security personnel. Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Economic Department, was found unhurt and is currently receiving medical treatment before being reunited with his family. CP Bello M Sani commended the bravery and professionalism of the Divisional Police Officer, Dakingari, and his team, stating, “The Command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the peace-loving people of Kebbi State remains unwavering.” The successful rescue operation was followed by a stakeholders’ meeting with the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Abubakar Umar, Tafidan Kabi, and the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Umar Zayyanu. The meeting focused on improving the security architecture of off-campus hostels, addressing concerns over inadequate accommodation forcing students to reside off-campus. The Kebbi State Government and the police have assured strengthened security around the university and its surroundings. The Vice Chancellor has appealed for support to address the hostel deficit, ensuring students’ safety and well-being. No ransom was paid during the rescue operation, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to upholding the law and protecting citizens.

DEADLY EARTHQUAKE KILLS OVER 1,600 IN MYANMAR, RESCUE EFFORTS CONTINUE AMID ONGOING CONFLICT

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake has killed more than 1,600 people in Myanmar and left thousands injured, with rescue teams scrambling to find survivors trapped under collapsed buildings. The quake, which struck on Friday, was also felt in neighboring Thailand and Pakistan, causing additional casualties and destruction. In Myanmar, the hardest-hit country, the death toll has risen to 1,644, with 3,408 injured and 139 still missing, according to the military leadership. Mandalay, the city closest to the epicenter, suffered severe damage, with at least 90 people believed trapped under a collapsed apartment building. Over 1,500 homes have been destroyed in the region. Rescue efforts are underway in both Myanmar and Thailand, where at least 10 people have died, 42 were injured, and 78 remain missing, mostly from a flattened high-rise in Bangkok. A 30-year-old woman, a mother of two, was miraculously pulled alive from the rubble in Myanmar after 30 hours, reuniting with her husband before being taken to hospital. Despite the disaster, Myanmar’s military has continued airstrikes in conflict zones, including near rescue operations. David Eubank of the Free Burma Rangers reported, “Since the earthquake, there’s been three airstrikes in southern Shan state and Kareni last night. So, they are not stopping.” The military, accused of war crimes by the UN, is battling pro-democracy militias amid a nationwide uprising. International aid has begun arriving, with India sending blankets, food, medical supplies, and a search-and-rescue team. The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) has pledged support for relief efforts. However, survivors face a grim reality, with one Mandalay resident stating, “We have lost everything.” As night falls, rescue teams continue digging through debris, with hopes fading for those still missing. The disaster has compounded suffering in Myanmar, where political turmoil and military aggression persist alongside natural catastrophe.

LAGOS POLICE RESCUE 27 FOREIGN NATIONALS, 6 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN ANTI-TRAFFICKING, ANTI-KIDNAPPING OPERATIONS

The Lagos State Police Command has rescued 27 foreign nationals who were lured into Nigeria under false promises of employment. The victims, comprising 18 men and nine women from Ghana and Benin Republic, were found held captive in the Isheri Oshun area of Lagos. According to the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, “A distress call from one of the victims led officers from the Conflict Response Unit to the location, where they freed the individuals. Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were to be transported elsewhere, raising concerns about potential international trafficking.” The police have launched an extensive probe to identify the traffickers and their network. In addition to the rescue of the foreign nationals, the Command also rescued six kidnap victims and arrested multiple suspects, including two Pakistani nationals and two other Nigerians, in a series of anti-kidnapping operations across the state. In one of the cases, two Pakistani nationals, Umarangol, 19, and Aftab Hamad, 28, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a fellow Pakistani whom they had lured to Lagos under the guise of offering him employment as a chef. The victim was held hostage in a hotel on Awolowo Road, Ikeja, where the kidnappers demanded a N50 million ransom for his release. Hundeyin said, “A swift intervention by the police led to the victim’s rescue, and two of the seven suspected kidnappers were apprehended. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and the Pakistani embassy has been notified of the development.”

TROOPS RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, ARREST KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER WEAPONS AND RANSOM MONEY IN KADUNA STATE

Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN have rescued five kidnapped victims and arrested three kidnappers in Kaduna State. The operation, which was conducted on March 2, 2025, was part of the recently launched Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A. According to reports, troops made contact with the kidnappers in Boto Forest, Zangon Kataf LGA, and subdued them with superior firepower. The kidnappers were forced to abandon their victims and flee. The rescued victims, who were debriefed and reunited with their families, included Mr. Abdullahi Saleh, 38; Master Blessed Haruna, 17; Mrs. Mary Nuhu, 32; Mrs. Charity Nuhu, 35; and Mr. Abubakar Wakili, 25. Troops also arrested three kidnappers, identified as Mr. Abubakar Shehu, 30; Mr. Mohammed Sani, 20; and Mr. Adamu Mohammed, 25. The suspects are currently in custody, making useful confessions to aid troops in follow-up operations. The operation also led to the recovery of one fabricated revolver rifle, 9 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), 2 mobile phones, 2 machetes, 32 rustled cows, and a cash sum of N521,000 suspected to be ransom money. One of the rescued victims, who sustained machete cut injuries, was evacuated to the hospital for treatment. The successful operation is a significant milestone in the efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry in Kaduna State.

TROOPS OF OPERATION SAFE HAVEN NEUTRALISE NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPERS, RESCUE VICTIMS AND RECOVER WEAPONS

Troops of Operation Safe Haven have successfully rescued four kidnapped victims and neutralized two notorious kidnappers in an encounter along the Kafanchan-Kwoi road in Kaduna. The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 7 Command of Operation Safe Haven under the command of Major-General Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding the Third Armoured Division in Jos, Plateau State. According to reports, the troops received a distress call on February 14, 2025, at about 2030 hours, regarding the kidnapping of some passengers along the Kafanchan-Kwoi road at Afana Daji Village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The troops immediately mobilized to the area and conducted search operations, leading to the rescue of one of the victims with a gunshot wound. Based on credible intelligence, the troops conducted further offensive operations around Angwan Rimi Forest in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State on February 15, 2025, at about 1600 hours. During the encounter, the troops neutralized two of the kidnappers and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 8 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), 10 mobile phones, foodstuffs, and a cash sum of One Million, One Hundred and Thirty-Six Thousand Naira (#1,136,000.00) only. The rescued victims have been identified as Mathew Ayemowa, Tunde Salam, and Mustapha Mohammed. Troops are currently dominating the general area with mobile patrols to ensure the safety of the residents.

ABUJA POLICE RESCUE 25-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FROM SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER AND RITUALIST

The FCT Police Command has successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, from a suspected armed robber and ritualist in the Wuse area of Abuja. According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command received a distress call from a hotel in the Wuse area on January 31, 2025, reporting suspicious activity in one of their rooms. Upon arrival, police operatives found Promise Eze, from Ebonyi State, tied to a small chair with her mouth covered in plaster. She was unconscious and in distress. The officers immediately freed her from captivity and rushed her to Wuse District Hospital, where she was resuscitated. Preliminary investigations revealed that Promise Eze had met the suspect online, where he introduced himself as Michael Prince, claiming to be an oil company employee based in Delta State. They agreed to meet in Abuja, but the suspect allegedly brandished a dagger, threatening and subduing the victim before restraining her. The suspect, who identified himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State, fled the scene, stealing Promise Eze’s two mobile phones. Before escaping, he informed suspected accomplices over the phone that he would return to the hotel to “finish the job.” The FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and is working tirelessly to ensure his immediate arrest. FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the act of violence, urging residents, especially young women, to exercise caution when meeting individuals they do not know personally. The commissioner reassured the public that the FCT Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. POLICE INTENSIFY CRACKDOWN ON ORGANIZED CRIME, RESCUE 16 VICTIMS

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its efforts to strengthen national security and curb crimes, particularly human trafficking and kidnapping. In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the police operatives have rescued 13 trafficked victims and 3 kidnapped victims in separate operations. The first operation took place on January 31, 2025, when police operatives attached to the Kaduna State Command apprehended three suspects – Samson Peter, Haruna Duniya, and Abdulazaq Olawole – who were trafficking 13 victims to Oyo State. Adejobi stated that the victims were rescued, and the investigation is ongoing. In another operation, police operatives of the Ogun State Command carried out a covert operation on January 29, 2025, and located the den of kidnappers responsible for an earlier reported abduction. Adejobi said the operatives engaged the gang in a gun duel, neutralizing five gang members and rescuing the three kidnapped victims. The police also recovered arms, ammunition, mobile phones, and a cash sum of N5.2 million. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their gallantry and dedication to duty. Adejobi quoted the IGP as saying, “The Police Force remains committed to effectively combatting all security threats.”

POLICE RESCUE WIFE OF FORMER LAGOS CP, KILL KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVER RANSOM

The Nigerian Police have successfully rescued the kidnapped wife of former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu. The police also killed the kidnappers and recovered the ransom paid for her release. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has commended the police operatives and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, for their bravery and professionalism in carrying out the rescue operation. “We are committed to safeguarding Nigerian citizens and our dear country,” Adejobi quoted the IGP as saying. The wife of the former CP was kidnapped on January 16, 2025, at her residence in Arepo, Ogun State, by four masked gunmen. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N10 million, which was later recovered by the police. The police operatives, with the support of the Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence platforms, tracked down the kidnappers to a creek in the swampy area of Ikorodu, where they engaged them in a shootout. Two of the kidnappers were killed, while four others escaped.

NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RE-STRATEGIZES TO COMBAT KIDNAPPING, NEUTRALIZES 3 KIDNAPPERS

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to curbing kidnapping and similar crimes across the country. In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the police successfully carried out a hostage rescue operation on December 31, 2024, at Kwande LGA, Benue State, neutralizing three kidnappers in the process. ACP Adejobi stated that the police operatives received a distress call concerning the kidnap of one Tor Gajir by unknown gunmen at the Kwande LGA. The operatives swiftly escalated the investigation, following the trail to one Desmond Ahar, who led them to the kidnappers’ den at Adikpo, Benue State. Adejobi noted that the kidnappers engaged the police in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of three suspects, while others fled with bullet wounds. The victim, Tor Gajir, was rescued unhurt and given medical attention to assess any physical or psychological impact. The operation also led to the recovery of 2 AK-47 rifles and 6 loaded magazines, with several live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and recover other arms. In a similar operation in Nasarawa State, police operatives rescued two hostages who had been captured by kidnappers. The victims were rescued unhurt, and efforts are still ongoing to arrest the fleeing kidnappers. Additionally, on January 7, 2025, police operatives in Bayelsa State intercepted a suspect, Usman Mohammed, en route to Rivers State, recovering 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 Type 09 AR, and 120 rounds of ammunition. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their successes, charging them to sustain the tempo to attain excellence in internal security and safety in Nigeria. IGP Egbetokun encouraged members of the community to remain vigilant and volunteer to play their role towards ensuring public safety and general security in Nigeria.
