TRAGEDY STRIKES AS CANDIDATES DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT EN ROUTE TO UTME

Several candidates travelling to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have died in a road accident on the Oyo-Ogbomoso highway in Oyo State. The accident, reportedly caused by suspected brake failure, occurred while the candidates were en route to their exam centres. The exact number of casualties and identities of the victims have not been disclosed. However, news of the crash has sparked widespread grief and condolences on social media, with many users expressing their sadness and frustration over the incident. Some candidates on social media questioned the policies of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with @omoiyaonikoko1 saying, “The JAMB registrar needs to resign… What’s wrong with the good old ways of writing JAMB?” @EsievDarneal lamented, “Everything is wrong with this country… Is it not better students go to the respective school they apply for to write their entrance exam?” @Kickflowdown expressed frustration over the examination process, saying, “I don’t understand JAMB… Has it changed to buying JAMB form and being sent to Zamfara like NYSC?” @comrade_lekan1, who claimed to have written an article against JAMB’s policies last year, called for the board to be sued, citing concerns over the safety and well-being of candidates. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and logistics of the UTME, with many calling for reforms and changes to the examination process. 13 PASSENGERS BURNT TO DEATH IN ONDO AUTO CRASH

Tragedy struck on the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State on Saturday, as 13 passengers were burned to death in an auto crash. The crash occurred at Abule Panu, Ose Bridge, and involved two buses. According to Dr. Samuel lbitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred at about 10:14 am. Dr. lbitoye stated, “The fatal crash claimed thirteen (13) lives of commuters in two buses. A total of 14 people were involved, out of which 13 were burnt beyond recognition, while only one was rescued alive with serious injuries.” Dr. lbitoye explained that eyewitnesses reported that the bus coming from Ikare axis had a tyre burst, leading to a loss of control and a resultant head-on collision with the bus loaded with fabric coming from Owo axis. He said, “Immediately after the collision, the two buses went up in flames.” The FRSC, Police, and Fire Service responded swiftly to the crash scene for rescue operations. Dr. lbitoye added, “The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, while the dead ones were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.”
