KIM KARDASHIAN’S ROBBERS FOUND GUILTY, BUT WON’T FACE PRISON TIME

A Paris court has found the ringleader and seven other people guilty in the 2016 armed robbery of Kim Kardashian, but none of them will serve additional prison time due to their ages, health issues, and time already served. The court acquitted two of the 10 defendants, known as “les papys braqueurs” or the grandpa robbers due to their ages, ranging from 60s to 70s. Aomar Aït Khedache, 69, the ringleader, received the stiffest sentence of eight years imprisonment, with five years suspended. Kardashian, who wasn’t present for the verdict, expressed her gratitude to the French authorities in a statement, saying, “The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family. While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all.” During the trial, Kardashian recounted the traumatic experience, saying, “I absolutely did think I was going to die.” She described being thrown onto a bed, having a gun pressed to her head, and being bound with zip ties and tape. The robbers, dressed as police, stole over $6 million in jewelry, including a diamond ring and a watch given to Kardashian by her late father. Khedache’s DNA was found on the bands used to bind Kardashian, and wiretaps captured him giving orders and arranging to sell the diamonds in Belgium. In a surprising moment, Kardashian forgave Khedache after hearing a letter of apology from him, saying, “I do appreciate the letter, I forgive you. But it doesn’t change the feelings and the trauma and the fact that my life was forever changed.” The robbery led to a recalibration of celebrity behavior in the age of Instagram, with Kardashian stopping to post her location in real-time and stripping her social media feed of lavish gifts. Other stars followed suit, rethinking how they live and protect themselves.
