FORMER KADUNA GOVERNOR EL-RUFAI QUITS APC, DEFECTS TO SDP

In a shocking move, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a significant departure from the party’s founding principles. El-Rufai, who played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC in 2013, expressed his disappointment with the party’s current leadership, stating that they have abandoned the progressive ideals that once defined the party. Despite his efforts to address these concerns privately and publicly, El-Rufai claimed that the party’s leadership has shown no willingness to listen. As a result, El-Rufai has decided to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a move that is expected to send shockwaves throughout the Nigerian political landscape. El-Rufai has instructed his supporters and associates to follow suit, marking a significant shift in the country’s political dynamics. In a statement, El-Rufai reflected on his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State, highlighting his achievements in implementing progressive policies aimed at advancing human development. However, he lamented that these accomplishments are no longer valued within the APC, which he believes has lost its way. El-Rufai’s defection is seen as a major blow to the APC, which has faced internal strife and criticism in recent times. The move is also expected to boost the fortunes of the SDP, which has been seeking to expand its influence in Nigerian politics.
