AT LEAST SIX FARMERS KILLED IN LATE-NIGHT BANDIT ATTACK IN NIGER STATE

Fresh violence has struck rural Niger State, as at least six farmers were killed in a late-night attack by suspected armed bandits. The assault targeted the Unguwar Wawa community in the Borgu Local Government Area. According to a report shared on Saturday by conflict journalist Bakatsine, the assailants stormed the area around 10 p.m. on Friday. The bandits opened fire on farmers who were working on their farmlands before fleeing the scene. The deadly incident has plunged the community into grief and heightened anxiety among residents. Many now fear further attacks. This attack underscores the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s agrarian communities, where rural farmers have increasingly become targets. Locals have renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies to protect vulnerable populations in remote areas. “We are living in fear,” one resident said, requesting anonymity. “We need the government to send security to our villages now before these killers wipe all of us out.” Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
