The Republican Party has presented the U.S. President Donald Trump with the first-ever “America First Award,” in what party leaders described as a recognition of his influence on conservative politics and policy direction.

The award was presented by Mike Johnson, who praised Trump’s leadership and commitment to the “America First” agenda; a political philosophy that prioritizes the U.S. economic and national interests in global affairs. Johnson described Trump as a transformative figure within the party, crediting him with reshaping Republican priorities and energizing its voter base.

During the presentation, Johnson unveiled a golden eagle statue, symbolizing strength and national pride, which he said would become an annual honour awarded to individuals who embody the party’s core values.

Party officials noted that the introduction of the award signals an effort to institutionalize Trump’s political legacy within the Republican movement, especially as the party looks ahead to future elections.

The event drew strong reactions across the political spectrum. Supporters hailed the recognition as long overdue, citing Trump’s influence on trade policy, immigration, and conservative judicial appointments. Critics, however, argued that the move underscores the party’s deep alignment with Trump, raising concerns about internal diversity of thought within the GOP.

The “America First Award” is expected to become a recurring feature at major Republican gatherings, further cementing its symbolic role in shaping the party’s identity in the years to come.
