WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY: FIRST LADY SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU ADVOCATES FOR INCLUSION AND ACCEPTANCE

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has joined the global community in celebrating World Autism Awareness Day, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and acceptance of individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In a message marking the occasion, Senator Tinubu acknowledged the unique potential and skills of individuals with ASD, stressing that neurodiversity is a “beautiful testament to human uniqueness.” She noted that despite this, many individuals with autism continue to face discrimination in accessing quality education, healthcare, employment, and social acceptance.
This year’s theme, “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” underscores the importance of considering the needs of individuals with autism in achieving sustainable development. Senator Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to “embrace neurodiversity, advocate for inclusion, and work together to create a society where every individual has the opportunity to excel.”

She specifically highlighted the need to achieve SDGs 4 and 8, which focus on access to quality education and economic opportunities for all. By promoting inclusivity and acceptance, Senator Tinubu believes Nigeria can create a more equitable society where individuals with autism can thrive.
