A coalition of civil society groups has countered claims by the Yoruba Union that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has failed to secure Nigeria against terrorism. National Coordinator of the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice, Comrade James Okoronkwo, in a statement, dismissed the Yoruba Union’s assertion as misinformation.

Comrade James Okoronkwo emphasized that the Tinubu administration, despite inheriting significant security challenges, has worked strenuously to address them. “The President Bola Tinubu Administration is only two years in office, it inherited mountainous problems and has been strenuously working to solve the security challenges,” Okoronkwo said.

The coalition highlights notable achievements under President Tinubu’s leadership, including the elimination of over 13,500 terrorists, surrender of 120,000, and reunification of 17,000 displaced persons with their families. Security forces have also recovered over 11,000 weapons and prosecuted over 100 terror financiers, disrupting terrorist networks. James Okoronkwo noted enhanced military capabilities through investment in modern equipment.

“The Bola Tinubu Administration is committed to making Nigeria more secure having recorded many feats in its battle against terrorism,” James Okoronkwo stated, urging Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts. The administration has strengthened security agencies, improved intelligence gathering, and engaged local communities to prevent radicalization.

Comrade James Okoronkwo concluded, “We urge Nigerians to disregard the Yoruba Union’s misinformation and recognize the efforts of President Tinubu’s administration in combating terrorism. We are confident that with continued support and cooperation, we can overcome the security challenges facing our nation”.
