FEDERAL HIGH COURT CONVICTS NNAMDI KANU ON ALL SEVEN TERRORISM COUNTS

The Federal High Court has delivered a landmark ruling, convicting Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, on all seven counts of terrorism charges. Justice James Omotosho found Kanu guilty after determining that the Department of State Services presented sufficient and credible evidence to prove its case.

In his judgment, Justice Omotosho noted that Kanu failed to enter a defense, instead choosing to rest his case on the prosecution’s evidence. The court described this as a gamble that left it with no option but to convict. The judge also faulted Kanu’s approach to achieving a Biafra nation, stating that employing violence amounted to the actions of a terrorist group.

With sentencing now awaited, the lead prosecutor Adegboyega Awomolo urged the court to impose a death sentence. Awomolo, a Senior Advocate, emphasized that counts one, two, four, five, and six provide for the maximum penalty due to the gravity of the offenses. He expressed shock at Kanu’s conduct, saying, “Rather than show remorse, the defendant has remained ever so unruly.”
