Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended greetings to Christian and Muslim faithful on the simultaneous commencement of Lent and Ramadan, urging Nigerians to use the sacred periods to promote peace, unity, and national stability.

In a message released Wednesday, the President described the rare coincidence of both observances beginning on the same day as a reminder of the shared spiritual values that bind people of faith together.

He noted that the Lenten season in Christianity represents a period of fasting, abstinence, and penitence, commemorating the example of Jesus Christ’s time in the wilderness before his crucifixion, which Christians believe brought salvation to humanity.

According to him, Ramadan holds similar spiritual significance for Muslims, symbolizing devotion, sacrifice, charity, and submission to God, and standing as one of the fundamental pillars of Islam. He added that beyond fasting, the holy month calls for deep reflection and adherence to religious teachings.

The President urged citizens across Nigeria to demonstrate good neighbourliness and uphold the virtues of peace, unity, and mutual respect as they observe the sacred seasons.

“As a nation and as a people, I urge us to ensure good neighbourliness, promote peace, unity, and stability, and pray for the progress and security of our nation,” he stated.

Tinubu encouraged adherents of both religions to live according to the moral teachings of their faiths and remain committed to their responsibilities to God and humanity.

He concluded with prayers that the lessons, blessings, and spiritual benefits of the holy seasons endure in the lives of the faithful and the nation at large.
