A political consultation meeting convened by former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, in Ughelli, Delta State, was disrupted on Wednesday following a disagreement over the alleged distribution of N2.5 million reportedly earmarked for party stakeholders.

The meeting, which was intended to mobilise support for Omo-Agege’s reported 2027 senatorial ambition, descended into chaos after disagreements broke out among supporters over the sharing of what was described as a “kola-nut” cash donation.

Eyewitnesses alleged that tensions escalated when some party members accused certain leaders of attempting to withhold part of the money meant for distribution across ward structures.

According to sources at the venue, the disagreement quickly degenerated into violence, with supporters reportedly throwing bottles and engaging in physical confrontations. Witnesses also claimed that gunshots were fired into the air by security personnel or local vigilantes in an attempt to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Omo-Agege was said to have left the venue as the situation deteriorated.

Although no fatalities had been confirmed as of the time of filing this report, several persons were reportedly injured during the unrest. The exact number of those affected could not be independently verified.

The incident comes amid ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections and follows Omo-Agege’s recent public comments advocating an end to political violence.

As of press time, neither Omo-Agege nor the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State had issued an official statement on the incident. Security authorities had also not released any formal account of the disturbance.
