Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has called on security agencies to investigate an alleged attack on Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in Ekiti State.

Adeyanju made the call in a statement after receiving information about the incident from an aide to Sowore.

He expressed concern over reports that a police officer attached to the AAC candidate was disarmed during the alleged attack, describing the development as a disturbing act of violence and political intimidation.

The activist condemned any attempt to use violence to intimidate political actors, stressing that such conduct was incompatible with democratic principles.

He urged the relevant security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure Sowore’s safety and bring anyone found culpable to justice.

Adeyanju also emphasised the need to protect political actors from threats and violence as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The reported incident has renewed concerns about the safety of political figures and the responsibility of security agencies to prevent attacks and uphold the rule of law.

However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack were not detailed in the statement, and no response from the police was included in the report.
