Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has presented staffs of office and official vehicles to the state’s 19 Emirs, charging the traditional rulers to take a more active role in the fight against insecurity.

The presentation, held in Gusau as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of Zamfara State, attracted traditional rulers, senior government officials and other dignitaries, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Governor Lawal said the event underscored his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions, which he described as indispensable partners in maintaining peace, stability and grassroots development.

He urged the Emirs to lead their domains with fairness, wisdom, integrity and compassion while working closely with security agencies to confront criminal activities.

The governor specifically called on the traditional rulers to provide credible intelligence, mobilise community support and ensure that criminals were not shielded or protected within their communities, regardless of their identities or affiliations.

Lawal said insecurity had remained a major setback for Zamfara, disrupting agricultural activities, displacing communities and depriving many families of their means of livelihood.

He stressed that the restoration of lasting peace would depend on sustained government action, effective security operations and stronger cooperation between communities and authorities.

The governor also tasked the Emirs with supporting efforts to revive agriculture by promoting peaceful coexistence and helping to secure access to farmlands and rural markets.

“As custodians of their communities, traditional rulers have an important role to play in creating an environment that will allow farmers and traders to return to their normal activities,” he said.

Lawal reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to completing the reconstruction and rehabilitation of royal palaces across Zamfara as part of efforts to improve the working conditions of traditional rulers.

He also presented official vehicles to the 19 Emirs to enhance their mobility and facilitate community engagement and coordination with government institutions.

The vehicles include 2025 and 2026 models of Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, GAC GS8 vehicles and EV Antics.

The governor urged the Emirs to ensure proper maintenance and use of the vehicles strictly for official assignments.

Lawal called for a stronger partnership between the traditional institution and the state government, urging the Emirs to support government programmes at the grassroots while providing constructive advice to the administration.

He assured Zamfara residents that his government would continue working with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to restore peace and protect lives and property across the state.
