The Nigerian Air Force has conducted precision airstrikes on terrorist enclaves in Abirma, Borno State, destroying key insurgent structures and disrupting their operations.

The mission, carried out on March 17, 2026, followed credible Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), which confirmed the presence of insurgent fighters concealed within the area in the southern axis of the Lake Chad region. Air assets, after careful verification, struck targets hidden under dense vegetation, significantly weakening the group’s operational capacity.

In a related operation, NAF air components, working in close coordination with ground troops under Operation HADIN KAI, neutralised several insurgents during a failed infiltration attempt in Malam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of March 18, was successfully repelled, preventing the insurgents from breaching defensive positions and reinforcing ongoing efforts to secure border communities in the North-East.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reiterated the Air Force’s commitment to sustained, intelligence-led operations. He emphasised that all missions are conducted in strict adherence to rules of engagement, with deliberate measures to minimise civilian casualties.

The operations form part of broader military efforts to curb insurgency and restore stability across affected areas in the region.
